The past week has seen us recover and play to potential. Every match is like a knock out situation for the contenders for the last 4 stage. Mumbai Indians come to the Lion’s den this week after having established a clear lead with comprehensive wins. The ageless superstar Tendulkar has shown that T20 format is not all savagery but of character backed by finesse and poise.
Touch artists, relegated to the point of neglect, have come back to please the eye of most die-hard cricket purists. A blemish-less innings is as rare as a maiden over in T20’s. The combination of pure touch framed in elegance showcased the brilliance of a young TN batsman, Murali Vijay.
In one of my previous blogs, I had mentioned the awesome talent this young man possessed. It was evident in the last classic, a hundred that was most pleasing to the eye and more importantly, to the heart. To bask in his glory with a yearning for more, here is a humble submission: “I am a scary judge of talent”.
His gait can be misleading. His expressions can make one feel there is not just a chip but a block of cold ice sitting on his right shoulder. The misconception is an outward picture that gives lie to one’s true nature that is misconstrued as attitude. The young man has shown the true ability in the last few games through unmistakable numbers. The world of entertainment is the richer with this touch of maturity from an all too rare touch artist.
Pushed into a corner, the Super Kings have marched with two wins, digging deep into their courage. The Fearless Entertainers, a slogan that the team conceptualised, have shown enormous fight in a professional manner. The pride was hurt, but the shoulders did not droop. The blast at Chepauk will halt the inroads made by the opposition camp.
Still, there are a few areas of concern to deal with. How to fit an in-form Hussey? He is a great competitor with incomparable finishing features functioning with the most organized mind and game. The win against RCB reinvented a lost feeling - the sheer joy of winning. To have Hussey and Bollinger join us has been a wonderful boost.
The evening before the RR game, it was nice to chat up with them. I remember telling Hussey about the catch held by his brother David. Bollinger immediately joined in to say it was phenomenal. The following night, to see Bollinger come up with one as good as that had a jaw-dropping effect.
Bollinger gives the team another dimension to the attack while bolstering the bowling and fielding departments. His variations in pace, the magnificent catch to dismiss the marauder Pathan and the vital wicket of Watson nailed the game in our favour. It’s not too often a performance such as that go without a Man of the Match award, something that the local lad Vijay certainly wouldn’t mind conceding to.
The efforts of Albie with the bat, for once coming in a winning cause, saw him feel better. It’s faith on hope as the hype to the IPL 3 reaches its last stages slowly but surely, lifting the morale in the side.
The captain will find his touch again with the winning ways of the team. Time to dig into his reserves as the 3–in-1 Champion is waiting to grab a bit of the limelight. The Chennai fans have taken to this upsurge in momentum. The cow jumped over the moon with local lad Vijay and it’s time for the Superstars to aim for the stars.
