Lakshmi Narayanan, CSK’s performance analyst from the inaugural season onwards, has picked his all time XI based on numbers.
In modern-day cricket, an analyst, who is a part of the support staff, plays a key role in a team’s success, especially in T20 where real-time data often determines victory.
CSK won the title twice, finished runners-up on four occasions and qualified to the Playoffs in all eight seasons to emerge as one of the most decorated sides in the opening decade of the IPL.

“Vijay – 892 runs with one hundred, five fifties and 13 other scores of over 30 in the two IPL triumphs (2010 & 2011). He scored @ 144.47 and with a boundary percentage of 60.92 during Powerplay in matches won.
“Hussey – 492 runs in IPL 2011 with four fifties, eight 30-plus scores and Man of the match on three occasions. His boundary percentage was 60.16 during Powerplay in matches won in IPL 2011 and 2012. Orange Cap winner for most runs (733 runs @ 56.30) in IPL 2013.
“Raina – Scored over 400 runs in every season from 2008 to 2014 and 374 in 2015. In matches won during the 2010 and 2011 IPL triumphs, he tallied 705 runs, scoring at a rate of 145.66 with an overall boundary percentage of 60.14 (70.45 % in Powerplay) and a boundary conversion rate of 5.14.
“Badrinath – Scored 356 runs in 2010 and 396 in 2011. In matches won in those two seasons he averaged 48.50 and recorded two half centuries and seven scores of over 30.
“Dhoni – 60.93 win percentage as captain in IPL for CSK. In the 2010 and 2011 IPL triumphs, he had an overall boundary percentage of 56.78 and a strike rate of 200 between the 16th and the 20th overs.
“Bravo – Only player to win the Purple Cap for most wickets twice (2013 & 2015), he was also the side’s highest wicket-taker in 2011 with 19 scalps. In matches won in 2012, he averaged 97.50 with the bat, scoring at the rate of 189.32. In 2012 and 2013, he had a strike rate of 188.52 and a boundary percentage of 58.26, not to forget a combined 26 wickets and a dot ball percentage of 35.57.
“Morkel – Third highest wicket-taker for CSK (76 wickets), he also scored 827 runs at a strike rate of 144.83. In matches won in the 2010 and 2011 IPL triumphs, he took a combined 18 wickets at an average of 27.89 and with the willow scored at a strike rate of 165.49.
“Jadeja – Took 55 wickets at an average of 24.89. In IPL 2012 and 2013 he claimed 19 wickets at an average of 22.32, and with the bat in the matches won he scored at a rate of 161.60 and with a boundary percentage of 60.40.
“Ashwin – Highest wicket-taker for CSK with 90 scalps at an average of 24.22, was instrumental in the two IPL triumphs by claiming 33 wickets combined at an average of 20.64. In those two seasons he picked up 11 wickets in Powerplay with a dot ball percentage of 58.33 and at an average of 13.64.
“Sharma – Purple Cap winner in IPL 2014 (23 wickets @ 19.65), he took 57 wickets in 47 games. In matches won in 2013 and 2014, Mohit had an overall dot ball percentage of 45.87.
“Bollinger – At 18.72 he possesses the best bowling average in IPL history. In the 2010 and 2011 IPL triumphs, he took 25 wickets combined at an average of 19.44. In matches won in those two seasons he had a dot ball percentage of 58.64 while bowling in Powerplay with an average of 21.71.”
